Elsoms Seeds have been supplying UK growers with top quality seed for over 100 years. They strive for efficient and effective production processes and profits for research and development, for physical investments, for good jobs and for their shareholders who back them - all this with the professionalism, friendliness and honesty which is their tradition.
"In 2006, Elsoms successfully installed an HSSTM Ø500 pelleting machine under license and guidance from INCOTEC", according Mrs. Rae Cook, Technology Manager at Elsoms Seeds. "This allowed us to process our own seed and offer a reliable and timely service to our growers. At the same time we were also able to offer an efficient service to other seed companies on a contract basis. It became evident during Spring 2008 that we could not cope with demand and significant investment was needed to allow any scope for increasing Seed Treatment Business. We thus set about, again with guidance of INCOTEC, scaling up to a much bigger machine and in April we began planning for an HSSTM Ø800 pelleting machine. The machine arrived at Elsoms on November 18th. and together with our maintenance team, the machine was installed within a week.
We at Elsoms were looking for a machine that was as automatic as possible. We expected there to be teething problems...but due to the hard work of the technicians working at Elsoms, the problems were overcome and the machine was up and running and producing commercial pellets just before Christmas 2008.
Elsoms have recently made large investments in treating, pelleting and priming vegetable seeds. We have choosen for the HSSTM Ø800, because the machine can treat large and small quantities of seed for our customers. Also the machine works quickly and efficiently which helps us to provide the best service for our customers. The machine is used for different crops but particularly Brassica, Alliums, Beetroot, Spinach, Carrots and Parsnips.
We produced all our own onion Splitkote Light® for sale in Spring 2009, quite an achievement for us and the machinery. About our experience with the complete package, by knowing machine and technology/ hard- and software), I can say that the technology and guidance from the supplier certainly fulfilled our expectations.
We have continued to develop the procedures and received training in that same period for treating parsnip pellets in bigger amounts.
The future plan is to increase the range of crops and expand the contract seed treatment business and hopefully expand to the point where we need further machinery."
